Advancing Synthetic Biology Entrepreneurship at TU Delft

On 11 and 12 November 2024, Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) welcomed partners from the European consortium of SYNBEE as part of the European Synthetic Cell Initiative.

Representatives gathered in the Netherlands (Delft) for two days of interactive sessions aimed at exchanging insights, fostering entrepreneurship, and exploring the innovative potential of synthetic biology.

Sharing Best Practices in Synthetic Biology

Participants included representatives from Rīgas Tehniskā universitāte (Riga Technical University), Häme University of Applied Sciences (HAMK), F6S Innovation, and other key SYNBEE partners.

This diverse group engaged in dynamic discussions, sharing their experiences and methods for supporting synthetic biology startups and accelerator programs.

Among the event highlights was a tour of YES!Delft, a premier incubator for tech startups, where the delegation gained firsthand insights into the entrepreneurial journey. Interactive sessions featured presentations by innovative startups, including:

  • Proteo-T, focusing on protein technologies.
  • Nature’s Principles, advancing sustainable biotech solutions.
  • AptaQuest, leveraging aptamer-based diagnostics.

Attendees also explored TU Delft’s thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem, connecting with stakeholders such as Delft Enterprises B.V., Biotech Booster, and the Innovation and Impact Center.

Building Future Cooperation

The event facilitated meaningful exchanges between attendees, including Stefania Usai (SynCellEU, TU Delft), Carlos de Lannoy (AptaQuest), Brigita Dejus and Diana Lapkisa (Rīga Tehniskā universitāte), Mika Tammilehto and Jyri Leinonen (HAMK), Andreia Santos and Sara Canedo (F6S), and TU Delft representatives Denise Jacobs, Irene Otten-Reynhout, and Nancy van Oorschot.

Discussions revealed shared goals and highlighted potential areas for future collaboration, emphasising SYNBEE’s mission to unlock the potential of synthetic biology across Europe.
